So, you wake up as usual and go through your morning routine. You head to the bathroom, turn on the tap, and…nothing. Not a single drop. Just the eerie silence of empty pipes.
You brush your teeth with emergency bottled water but the thought of a refreshing shower feels like a distant dream.
The day passes, dishes pile up, the laundry waits, and a strange anxiety emerges. Water, the most basic necessity, suddenly feels far from ordinary.
Is it Hapi's curse?

The Myth of Hapi: The Nile God
In Egyptian mythology, Hapi is the god associated with the annual flooding of the Nile River, a vital event that is said to bring fertility to the land. Pictured as a pot-bellied man with blue/green skin, Hapi was believed to control the waters that flowed from the river's mysterious source, blessing people through these floods.
Egyptians consider the Nile a divine gift, and Hapi its guardian. Offerings and prayers were made to ensure his favor, as the river's flooding was crucial for agriculture and, consequently, for maintaining their livelihoods. Without Hapi’s blessings, famine and chaos would ensue.
Seriously, What’s Going On with Water?
A moment of honesty? We can't blame it all on Hapi. We're all taking this lifeblood of our planet for granted.
If you thought the previous water scarcity scenario was fictional, it’s not. This is the reality for roughly half of the world's population, experiencing severe water scarcity for at least part of the year, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). And the truth is, the other half is not so far from this becoming their reality, too.
But here's the good news, “we” have the power to change the plot of this story and a simple folktale will be our guide.
The Legend of the Nile's Tears

The story of the Nile's tears offers a ray of hope and resilience among all these struggles. According to an Egyptian folktale, the Nile was born from the tears of Isis, the goddess of love, healing, fertility, and magic. As Isis wept for her beloved Osiris, her tears flowed into the land creating the river that would sustain life.
This folktale passed down through generations is a reminder of water's transformative power and the resilience of the human spirit. Even in times of scarcity, the Nile continues to offer hope.
Tiny tears formed the Nile and tiny habits can save it.
YOU can be a water champion!
Yes, you read it right. Advocating for this life-giving resource needs a conscious mind that drives action. That is all it takes from the average person
The following insightful tips empower you to make a difference:
Plan water usage carefully: Prioritize essential water uses and plan tasks around the limited water availability to ensure the most important needs are met first- drinking, cooking, and sanitation.
Reuse gray water: If possible, recycle water from tasks like washing vegetables for use in non-potable applications like flushing toilets.
Community water sharing: Collaborate with neighbors to maintain and share communal wells. Pooling resources can make it easier to access water and ensure that everyone in the community has a fair share.
Seek local support and resources: Engage with local organizations or government programs that provide support for water conservation and management. They may offer resources, training, or assistance in implementing water-saving measures.
But the most important step? Share your story.
Talk to your family, friends, and neighbors about the importance of water conservation.
